Application:

The WatchBP CVR software has been designed for use by the doctor in the office or clinic in order to optimize and facilitate the management of hypertensive patients. The main objectives for developing this Patient Record Management system software was (1) the close monitoring of all cardiovascular risk factors and total cardiovascular risk assessment (2) the automated download (USB or Bluetooth) and interpretation of office/clinic, home and ambulatory BP measurements obtained by Microlife WatchBP family devices (WatchBP Office, WatchBP Home and WatchBP O3). The interpretation of the cardiovascular risk factors and of the BP measurement is based on the latest American and European guidelines.

Key Business Challenges:

• Ease of use and ergonomical procedure that appeals to the doctor (GP).
• EBS had to handle two sources of requirements: (a) functional requirements from medical (academic) experts, (b) technical requirements from the engineering department & product department in Taiwan.
• Flexibility and quick adaptation to ever changing requirements.

Key Technical Challenges:

• Handle seamless communication via USB and Bluetooth in a way that gracefully recovers from connectivity errors.
• Optimize the desktop application for different host environments.

Solution:

EBS designed and delivered a Java RCP desktop application with an embedded Derby RDBMS and native (JNI) implementations for USB and bluetooth driver interaction. Although the requirements changed multiple times the end result was delivered on time and met the requirements set. The application offers an innovative EHR management approach and implements robust BP device connectivity.
